Water quality problems in the Lower Rio Grande area

Dear Lower Rio Grande Stakeholder:

This email is part of an effort to contact our elected officials to request federal assistance to finance measures designed to mitigate discharges of pollutants into the Lower Rio Grande.

In addition to more frequent and intense droughts that threaten water availability in our area, the quality of our primary source of freshwater, the Lower Rio Grande downstream of Falcon Reservoir, is deteriorating at a rapid pace due to discharges of wastewater containing high levels of fecal bacteria and dissolved salts.

Your help is requested to obtain federal funds to advance the Lower Rio Grande/Río Bravo Water Quality Initiative. The goal of this binational initiative is to develop a comprehensive plan to restore and protect water quality in this vital water resource, now and for decades into the future.

Below is a list of State of Texas and US Legislators whose districts are within the Lower Rio Grande Valley.  Links to their email addresses are included next to their names.  It will take just a few minutes to write a short email to one or two, or as many of these legislators as your time will allow.  A sample message that you can modify as you like is attached to make this process easier.

The more individual emails sent, the greater the odds federal funds will be dedicated to improving and protecting water quality in the river, so please feel free to forward this to anyone you think might also be interested in sending one or more emails or letters, to the representatives listed below.
